Sierra Presbyterian Church

Sierra Presbyterian Church had decided that their website needed to be given a facelift from the collected pages that had grown up in an organic fashion since the late 1990's (see right).

At the same time the Church decided to reduce the amount of redundant information on the site.

Change in focus

It was decided to use the website less for distributing news about weekly events at the church, and instead use the site to communicate the beliefs of Sierra Presbyterian Church.

Introduction of templates

With the exception of some areas of the site that were to retain their own identity, including the Youth web pages, the redesign started with the development of a number of templates that would be used to generate all of the new pages. This would promote a consistent look and feel for the site, as well as allowing consistent navigation options.

Navigation Options

Navigation was improved using a number of techniques, including a standard menu bar on each of the pages, the addition of a website map listing the sections of the site and their purpose, and the use of blue text for the links in the majority of cases.

Technical details

The Sierra Presbyterian Church site is a static rather than dynamic site, with an emphasis on content, over functionality. To this end the site comprises HTML pages that make extensive use of Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) for the formatting and effects. This ensures that changes to the look and feel of the site should be easier to accomplish moving forward.
